Take Me Back

Take Me Back

© SMP Donovan 2007

Style: Country/Western

Notes: Travelling boy meets poor girl and leaves but will come back. You know the story …

Take me back

To that old Kentucky moonshine.

To the shack in the hills beneath the snow.

I met her there in the winter long ago.

We shared a lifetime of memories high and low.

Her ma and pa,

they were farmers in the dustbowl.

Moved back East when the bank came to foreclose.

All her life she was moved from town to town,

Now she dreams of a place to settle down.

I came along

With the rodeo from Wisconsin,

Saw a dark haired beauty with no place to go.

Her dark green eyes asked a question of my soul.

Ruby lips, they were soft and sweet and whole.

(Instrumental Break)

Her face was framed

In the window as I road off

To another town, another nightly show.

And yet she knows through the time, through the distance,

She is the one I’ll come back to wed one day.

Take me back

To that old Kentucky moonshine.

To the shack in the hills beneath the snow.

I met her there in the winter long ago.

We shared a lifetime of memories high and low.

Take me back

To that old Kentucky moonshine.

To the shack in the hills beneath the snow.

Take me back

To that old Kentucky moonshine.
